Barrie

Let me tell you about BarrieĀ…

It still is one of the fastest growing cities in Ontario. Located 45 minutes North of Toronto, on a beautiful Kempenfelt Bay of Lake Simcoe, that comes right into the heart of the city. With population of 142,000, the city offers an array of services any larger city would be proud of.

The greatest Barrie advantage, is it's central location is obvious during the trips back home from the cottage. You are here, by the time everyone else finally stretches their legs after several hours in the car, you are fast asleep, resting.

An hour drive will take you to the heart of beautiful Muskoka, there is a lake at your door step, in the middle of the city, and you can still swim in it... Algonquin with the spectacular fall colors is just two hours away. And if you need to go to The City... you can be there in about 45 minutes. If your work takes you south to the BIG T.O. there is great news too for you. On December 17, 2007 the GO Train came back to town to help countless commuters getting to work and back in style.

The city of Barrie offers state of the art sport facilities, training center, 5 hockey facilities offering a total of 8 rinks for hockey enthusiasts, young and old. It is home to the Colts at their state of the art facilities at the BMCMolson Centre

Well known throughout the world, Mariposa School of Skating with it's National Training Center located at the Allandale Recreational Center. There are also several outdoor skating rinks. The city has three Olympic size swimming pools, as well as one of the newest additions to the array of sport facilities offered by the municipality, the Sports Dome, providing indoor soccer and golf opportunities.

Another important place for young families, is the Public Library. It is a modern facility, bright and specious, offering an array of programs for children of all ages, my kids used to spend countless hours there. In early 2012 a new branch of the Barrie Public Library was opened in Yonge and Big Bay Point area.

Perhaps you love to ski, but coming from Toronto, Mississauga, or Brampton, means countless hours in the car and cranky kids when you finally get to the slopes.

Barrie on the other hand is situated only minutes from the ski hillsSnow Valley Resort , a skiing and snowboarding resort offering night runs just at the Northern edge of the city, 20 minutes away if you live in the south end.

If you up for bit longer trip, you may venture to Horseshoe Valley, with spectacular scenery on the way, again ski till you drop, or until 10PM. This ski resort offers the splendor of Carriage Hill Resort, a time-share property with highest standards.

Then, you have to visit the spectacular Mount St. Louis Moonstone, located 20 minutes north of Barrie, just off of Hwy 400.

And of course, you must not forget the highest skiing mountain in Ontario, Blue Mountain, located on the shores of Georgian Bay, with amazing views on a clear day, showcasing the Wasaga Beach. I'm sure you know how amazing it is during Summer too; and from Barrie, it's only 40 minutes away. How can you top that? And... if you want to know a secret... it's growing fast and is quickly becoming a favorite retirement community for Toronto Baby Boomers. Be sure to for all the details, you may be surprised by the great prices up there...
