| Barrie GO Transit is fast proving to be a great benefit to the this fast growing city's residents. With 3 trains leaving the station each morning and 3 coming back at night, the service provided to the commuters in unparalleled. With 135,000 people calling Barrie home, it was crucial to provide this service for them. It takes about an hour to get to the Union Station in Toronto and for those who used to sit in early morning traffic to get there is simply a blessing. Go Station in Barrie was opened on December 16th, 2007. It was a snowy Sunday, but City of Barrie residents, GO and City of Barrie staff, and representatives from the federal, provincial, and municipal governments joined together to celebrate the opening of the new Barrie South GO Station. GO Train service to and from Barrie South started on Monday, December 17.
